TpT Seller Challenge Week 2: Dare to Dream

Hello Friends!
Welcome to week 2 of the TpT Seller Challenge.  This week is called Dare to Dream.  Dreams are what keep us motivated to keep going when the going gets tough.  They keep me plugging away and going strong even when I don't feel like it anymore.  Some days it all feels overwhelming and then I think of my dreams (my husband's too) and it is the motivation to keep going.
Be a Work-at-home Momma Permanently: While we have been living in the Bahamas since November of 2013 I've been able to be a work-at-home momma.  In all honesty it took awhile to adjust after teaching full-time for 15 years.  I LOVE it now and would love to be able to stay home and work.  It enables me to support my children.  One has some considerable special needs and I have noticed a big difference (positive one) now that I am home.  I would love to make enough with my TpT store for us to afford for me to continue to work from home now that we are moving back to Seattle in November/December.

Foster More Kids:  Both of my children are adopted from foster care in Washington state.  We were foster parents and are looking forward to getting home and getting licensed again.  We dream of having a big home where we can have lots of kids.  We dream of giving many more foster children "a safe place to land".

Grow my Foster Care Ministry:  My small group from my church back home started a foster care ministry.  I stepped up into a leadership role.  It's called Abe and Sarah's Kids.  We support foster families in Snohomish County, Washington by providing backpacks to foster kids with the essentials for the first 48-72 hours in a new foster home.  We call these Loads of Love.  We also operate a clothing closet 1-2 evenings a month where foster parents can come and get the clothing they need for the foster and adopted kids in their care.  We are purely donation funded but dream of becoming an official non-profit organization some day.

Go on Ministry Trips:  I have never been on a ministry trip.  I dream of going on several.  I want to travel to Africa, Haiti, and wherever God leads us.  We have a heart for the orphans of this world and dream of getting to love them and share God's love with them.

So there you have it.  My great big dreams.  What are your dreams??

Five for Friday ~ June 26

 Hello Friends!
I've been absent this week from blogging and social media due to my son being sick.  Poor guy started with a fever overnight Monday into Tuesday.  He seemed better Tuesday morning.  Tuesday afternoon the fever returned with a vengeance.  I took him to our nurse Wednesday afternoon.  She saw an ear infection and possible strep.  We tried to start antibiotics but he refused to take it.  Even when I mixed it up in ice cream!  So we had to go to the pediatrician yesterday afternoon after his fever rose to 103.5 and he was miserable.  He got an antibiotic injection in his bum (note to other parents...try and avoid this!  Traumatic for mom and Levi!) and will start very powerful antibiotics later today after a follow-up visit with the pediatrician.  My poor man has a double ear infection, strep throat, and conjunctivitis (pink eye).  Good news is that the injection worked fast and he feels a ton better and is currently busy playing.  So that means a few minutes for me to blog...

It's Friday and that means it's time for Five for Friday!  Thanks to Kacey from Doodlebugs Teaching for hosting this fun linky every Friday.  Click the button below to join in on the fun!

Sunday was Father's Day.  I snapped these pictures of my two and put them on cards for their dad.  I added some cute answers to questions about their dad.  My favorite was Levi's answer to "What's something daddy is not so good at?"  Levi's answer was "Huh?"

This week this linky was going around Instagram.  I am getting so excited for Vegas!  Not only to meet all the new people and learn so much but also to be reunited with my besties Lindsey and Kristin from 2 Literacy Teachers and my friend Alicia who comes with her husband just to hang out with us in Vegas.  I leave in 11 days!!!

My husband and I spent the day at Sandals Resort on Tuesday as a combined Mother's Day and Father's Day celebration for just the two of us.  Heaven!!!  Being a resident I can get a day pass so it's a nice way to just get away from all the craziness of every day life.  We had a great time.  We snorkeled and even found a sea turtle.  I've seen them paddleboarding but have never swam with one.  It was soooo cool!  We came back relaxed and refreshed.

While I was spending the day relaxing the kids were busy with their sitter.  I left the story hour plans with another mom and she was kind enough to run it while I was gone.  This week they read a Clifford story and made a modified Clifford art project.  I saw this idea on Pinterest.  It's just a photo and doesn't link anywhere.  If you know the source or are the source, let me know.  I'll gladly credit you!  I had to modify it for my toddlers and preschoolers so we didn't do the streamers or string on top.

Tuesday night I went out with my girlfriends to celebrate a friend who is leaving in a few days.  We walked out on the beach at sunset to grab a picture of us.  I love all my friends here on this crazy rock.  Without all of you this place would be a lot harder to love life.  Melody... I'm going to miss you.

Well it's time for me to get to work.  My friend and her daughter are arriving this evening to stay with us for a week.  I haven't seen her or her daughter in 5 years.  Looking forward to a fun week together!  Suri and her daughter are going paddle boarding in the morning to kick off our fun week.  What are you up to this weekend?  Happy Summer and see you in Vegas!

Five for Friday ~ June 19

Hello Friends!

Happy Summer!  As I've been visiting everyone's blogs I've loved seeing everyone's pictures of what they are already busy doing.  As I sit here writing this I have 4 children over for a playdate.  Actually, one of them is mine.  But I have a 2 year old, 2 4 year olds, and a 5 year old.  The 3 girls are busy playing with play-doh and my son is busy entertaining them and making them laugh.  So let's get this Five for Friday started!  Thanks to Kacey from Doodlebugs Teaching for hosting!  Click the pic below to learn more or join in.

Today is Suri's last day of school!  For a couple weeks anyways... She will be starting summer school at a new school.  But for today, it's the last day and her last day at Windsor Prep here in the Bahamas.

My husband and I pulled off an epic surprise last weekend.  We booked a last minute cheap deal to Florida for his 4 day weekend.  When I say last minute, I mean I had 24 hours to pack everyone and do it on the sly.  We had the kids clueless that we were going away until we got them out of the truck at the airport and showed them their suitcases in the back.  Here they are in front of the airport.  At this point they know we are going somewhere but have no idea where!

Divider 3
We finally told them we were headed to Florida after we got through security and customs.  We added the surprise that we were headed to see Winter and Hope from the Dolphin Tale movies the next day.  Screams of delight!!!  When we arrived in Florida the kids told the pilot that "It was a great flight!"  He let them come up in the cockpit and taught them a little about how the plane works.  Oh my word!  How could this trip get any better???

Friday it was off to meet Winter and Hope!

We finally heard back for where we are headed next.... The Crawford family is moving home to Seattle!!!  We are very excited to be going back home.  We anticipate being home just before Christmas.  Seattle... here we come!
Seattle--A really nice, number one place to spend a special occasion with a special someone, see museums and bookstores, not to mention Pike Place. Would be nice to have dinner or lunch at the Space Needle for the first time.

This week for preschool story hour we read Blueberries for Sal... a classic!  For the art project I came up with the idea to have the kiddos make their own blueberry baskets.  Not pinterest inspired... yay me!  :)

I cut the brown strips for the kiddos so they could focus on the gluing and the criss-cross pattern.
First they put their strips on in one direction.

Then they glued them on in the opposite direction.

Then we added the side strips and blueberries.  We did blueberries with our fingers by dipping them in blue paint.  "Ker-plink!"  "Ker-plank!"  "Ker-plunk!"

Then we used a brown marker to add a handle... ta da!

Hope you are enjoying your summer!  Vegas is getting closer!!!  Are you going??  I am and I'm so excited!  Hope to see you there!

TpT Seller's Challenge Week One: Makeover Madness

Hello Friends!
Did you see the TpT Seller's Challenge on social media over the past couple of weeks?  What a fantastic idea!  Four fantastic teacher/bloggers have come together to provide this challenge.  Here's the details:

Well week one is here and this week is all about Makeover Madness!

So I looked at my products in my store and decided to makeover my Short Vowels Apple SPLAT! Game.  The short a version is a freebie in my store.  It definitely needed some love.  Check out the before and after pics...

short vowels, apples, SPLAT, literacy stations, games
The text is much easier to read and the colors pop a bit more.  Within this game are divider pages for each short vowel.  Here's a peek at how I made over those...

Again, the text is much easier to read on my newer version.  I also decided to stick with the little boy character I have on the cover throughout the product.

In addition I added a page full of ideas for how to differentiate using this game and these materials in the classroom.

Want to try SPLAT?  Short A Apple Splat! is a freebie in my TpT store.  You can grab it here.  Want all the short vowels?  This product is on sale through Sunday in my TpT store.  You can grab it here.

Don't forget to stay tuned for week number two!

Tell All Tuesday: Summer Snapshot

Hello Friends!
It's time for my favorite Tuesday Summer linky party... Tell All Tuesday!  How much fun was last week's two truths and a lie??  I had so much fun reading everyone's and then going back and seeing which were the lies.  Missed it?  You can read mine here.  This week our theme is Summer Snapshot.  I'm going to be sharing some of my favorite summer memories.  Thanks to my friends Jayme and Diana for hosting this fun linky!

When I think back to summer as a child I remember road trips and camping trips.  We were a sleep on the ground in our sleeping bags tightly packed into our tent kind of family.  No foam pads for us growing up!  I remember 2 big trips.  One was a 2 week trip from Wisconsin to Vermont for a family reunion.  We camped our way out and back.  The other trip was from Wisconsin to California and back.  We also camped our way out and back.  All those pictures are with my mom back in Wisconsin.  But think early 80s, canvas green tent, red dodge caravan with the wood paneling along the side, 4 sleeping bags (cotton and flannel-lined), a couple of coolers, a mosquito net tent to cover the picnic table at the campsites, and a few suitcases and you get the picture.

As I got older I traveled with friends and with my younger sister.  Lots of road trips up the east coast and trips to the beach.  One of the best experiences was camping on the beach at Assateague with the wild horses.

Now that I have my own family we also enjoy traveling.  We have tried camping with a little success.  Here's my kiddos a couple of years ago on a camping trip.

Both my husband and I grew up camping but are feeling old.  So we are going to look into a pop-up and see if that might help remedy the sleep situation... meaning that no one gets any sleep in the tent.

We took the kids to Hawaii and had a blast a couple of years ago.  It was a combined adoption celebration for our daughter and son.  Even though they were adopted a year and a half apart we wanted to celebrate becoming a family.

So here's the family shot at Volcanoes National Park.  Kids are miserable and no one wants to look at the camera... you know, family vacation reality!

Then we found happiness... shave ice at Hapuna Beach!

For the last year and a half we have lived in the Bahamas... a place where everybody dreams of going on vacation.  It is a wonderful place to visit for vacation and there is one place that is my happy place.  It is the place I go to soothe my soul...

I leave you with that my friends.  Don't forget to head on over to the other blogs to see their Summer Snapshot!  Happy Summer!

Tell All Tuesday...My Lie Reveal!

Hello Friends!

Did you read my post for Tell All Tuesday?  Tell All Tuesday is a new summer linky party hosted my by friends at My Day in K and Teach Talk Inspire.

The theme this week was two truths and a lie.

Here were my two truths and a lie...
  • I spent my junior year of high school abroad as an exchange student.  I spent the year in Switzerland and learned to speak fluent German.  I lived with two different families.  I was able to travel some throughout Europe and am looking forward to taking my husband and children some day.

  • I play both piano and flute.  I started piano at the age of 7.  I started flute at the age of 9.  I get terrible nerves when performing on the piano.  I'm completely fine playing the flute.  Performing for the panels of piano professors at the end of each semester in college were probably my most terrifying experiences while playing piano.

  • I've always wanted to be a teacher and never anything else.
And the lie was... #3!  For a long time I really wanted to be a meteorologist.  I even took a meteorology course in college but found the science and math really difficult.  Teaching has always been a huge part of me so on to teaching it was!

Did you guess right?  Tune in this coming Tuesday for another fun way to get to know each other!  I hope you link up!
