Five for Fraturday...what a week!

Good Morning!
It was an early start for me this morning.  I heard my kids playing at 4:30am.  Yikes!  I quickly sent my daughter back to her bed and tried to get my son back to sleep.  She is still sleeping 3 hours later and he has been awake the whole time!  So I'm linking up a day late with Kacey from Doodlebugs Teaching for her awesome Five for Friday linky party.  Click the picture below to join in the fun if you'd like.

Let's get started with my 5 random things from this past week...

If you follow me on instagram you saw me post this...
This week has been all about the power outages.  Rolling outages are normal here in the summer but they usually only last an hour, maybe 2 at most.  You know they're coming, you expect them.  This week?  INSANE!  Wednesday... power was out from 1pm-7:30pm.  Thursday...power was out from 3:30-6:30pm and then again for a couple hours overnight.  How do I know?  Without AC it got really hot and you can hear everyone's generators kick on and running.  (We don't have one that is connected to our home that automatically kicks on).  I thought for sure that had to be the end of it.  I mean, come on!  It couldn't go out 3 days in a row over dinner time, right?  WRONG!  It went out yesterday from 4-7pm.  For 3 nights in a row I have wanted to make Shepherd's Pie for dinner.  For 3 nights in a row I couldn't "cook" dinner.  I'm over it already.  This power outage thing is for the birds people!

I am back in my walking routine.  I have 2 friends to walk with in the mornings.  It's really nice to have friends to walk with.  Helps the time go faster and I usually don't even realize we've done our usual 3 miles.  One day we did 4 miles we were so busy talking.  Yesterday I went and did another cross fit workout after walking 3 miles.  It was so hard but I was so proud of getting through it and not passing out or puking.  Ha ha!  My friend gave me workouts to do at home today and tomorrow.  Today I have to do 4 rounds of a 400m run, 15 push-ups, and 15 sit-ups.  I'm headed out to do it in a bit.  Just waiting for my breakfast and coffee to settle a bit.  And it's raining so I'm hoping that it will stop before I have to go out and run.  Tomorrow I have a 1 mile run.  Monday I get to rest.  :)

For preschool story hour this week we started some Spring activities.  I read A Mother for Choco.  It's a great story and it's really good for adoption.  If you have friends who are thinking about adoption, waiting, or have adopted, it would make a great gift.  Our craft was spring chicks.  I found the idea here.  Here's Levi's.  They turned out super cute.
I was at the grocery store this week doing some grocery shopping.  I know prices have gone up since VAT (7.5% tax) started in January.  I didn't realize how much until I got home and was putting my yogurt away.  GASP!

Today is our Easter egg hunt with all our Embassy friends and then the neighborhood Easter egg hunt.  I need to bring a dish.  The first event starts at 10 and is a brunch.  I'm making and bringing this.
 Cinnamon Roll Casserole

I'm off to go bake!  Happy Saturday everyone!

Sunday Scoop

 Good Morning!
It's time for my favorite Sunday morning linky... Sunday Scoop.  Thanks to the Teaching Trio for hosting this fun linky.  Click the pic below if you'd like to join us.

Here's my Sunday Scoop...
I knew it was only a matter of time.  I received my first negative feedback.  I've read a lot on the forums for how to respond to negative feedback.  It happened last night so it's not as fresh.  I waited awhile to formulate my response.  Also I'm going to respond with all my future customers in mind.  Not fun, but necessary.

I need to head to the grocery store before church.  I need to grab a couple of items for the toddlers for Sunday school.  Might grab a couple groceries too.  Depends on how my 2 littles behave.  Sometimes they're pretty good.  Other times it's a complete disaster.  We are headed to a friend's place for a bbq this afternoon to celebrate some birthdays so I also have to grab ingredients to make a salad and then make the salad to bring.

I uploaded a new product this week.  It's the first in a whole series I'm starting called One Book Wonders.  The idea behind the products is that a teacher has everything he/she needs to teach one day or more all from one book with very minimal prep.  I did my first one with The Pigeon Needs a Bath!  by Mo Willems.  They make great sub plans or fun activities for those days around testing or breaks.  Also when you finish a unit and can't start the next one and need something to fill a day or two?  It will work great.  It's CCSS Aligned too so it's not fluff.  It's material students need to be learning.  My first one was for grades 1-2.  Kindergarten and Preschool are next.  Then grades 3-4.  Click the picture below if you want to check out my first one.

My son is just starting a cold.  As of this morning he is coughing.  I'm undecided as to whether I should take him to church.  He has asthma that is triggered by colds so I'll have to decide closer to when it's time to go.  Don't want to send him if he's coughing a lot but I'm not one of those parents who keeps their kids home everytime they have a cold.

Yesterday we made new play dough.  We made kool-aid play dough!  Smells amazing!  My son is patiently waiting for me to play with him.  So off I go...

Happy Sunday!

Five for Friday!

Good Morning!
It's Friday and you know what that means... time for the weekly Five for Friday linky party!  Woo hoo!  Let's get this party started.  Thanks to Kacey from Doodlebugs Teaching for hosting!

This week for preschool/toddler story hour it was all St. Patrick's Day.  I did something different this time though.  I read the story first.  Usually we gather everyone and sing all our songs first.  On Tuesday my son Levi asked me to read the book first.  I figured, why not?  It worked so well!  Everyone sat for the whole story!  This does not happen with 10-12 kids ages 18mo - 4.  I think Levi is on to something.
I read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover.  They love the old lady books.  I sing them as I read them so that helps them maintain their interest and attention.  Then  we sang our songs.  We mix it up with fun songs and action/movement songs.  I love how our youngest kiddos are starting to do the hokey pokey with us.  It's so cute!  Then it was craft time.  We made fingerpaint rainbows with finger paint.  I cut the pots of gold ahead of time so the kids just had to glue them.  At the end they got to add the green glitter.

Snack was Lucky Charms.  They loved it!

Wednesday I did my first cross fit workout.  Oh my word!  It is intense and such a good workout.  I'm addicted.  But I am soooo sore!

On Wednesday I finished a product I have been working on for 2 weeks.  Usually it doesn't take 2 weeks for me to finish a product but I really had to take my time with this one.  I'm so excited about this new line of products.  I'm calling them One Book Wonders.  It's everything you need to teach for a day (sometimes up to 3 days) all using one book.  Hence the name...One Book Wonders.  For my first one I chose The Pigeon Needs a Bath! by Mo Willems.  It is CCSS Aligned for grades 1-2.  One Book Wonders make great sub plans since there's very minimal prep needed.  They also work great for those days where you're in between units, before or after breaks, or after testing.  This one is only $5.  I don't know about you, but I would gladly pay $5 to not have to write sub plans and know that my kids are going to be actively engaged in learning and not sitting doing worksheets.  Check it out!  Click the picture to grab it from my TpT store.

Yesterday I borrowed a friend's paddleboard and went paddleboarding with my friend Mairy.  There's this great spot that I know of and the water is so calm.  We saw turtles, stingrays, starfish, and lots of coral and sea urchins.  There was even a shark nearby.  Thankfully we didn't see him/her.  Some locals warned us to stay away.  :)
 The incredible view
The water is so clear you can see the turtle grass!

Yesterday afternoon I had a headache.  Usually I work on TpT during the afternoons but I decided to play hooky and hang out here.  Pure bliss!  Water still isn't warm enough for me but I love watching my kids play and swim.  I should be able to go in again next month.  That's when it really starts getting warm here.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

March Madness Blogger Match-up

Let's get ready to..... watch basketball!  I admit, I'm not much of a basketball fan except for when March Madness rolls around.  I'll watch my alma mater (Wisconsin) if I catch them on tv during the season but I get really hyped come March Madness time!  Maybe it's because they are so good they make the tournament most years.  Maybe it's because I LOVED going to college there and attending all the sporting events.  Maybe it's because I'm just a Wisconsin cheesehead.  Ha ha!

I'm participating in March Madness Blogger Match-up!

We all got matched up with a team.  I didn't get Wisconsin, but I got a pretty good team that has a shot to go pretty far.  I'll be watching their games for sure.  Who did I get???  Drum roll please......

Here's the brackets.  My teams play tomorrow so tune in and help me cheer them along!

Oh!  And there's prizes!!!!

I'm giving away this at some point during March Madness both here and on Instagram!  Tune in and make sure you follow me so you don't miss out!

Sunday Scoop

 Good Morning!
Here we are, another Sunday morning.  Levi and I are watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates while I get this blog post done.  It's time for the Sunday Scoop, a fun linky party by Teaching Trio.  Click the picture below to link up!

Here's the scoop around here...

There was a fire at one of the power plants Friday afternoon.  It knocked out the power Friday afternoon around 1pm until about 2:40am Saturday morning.  The newspaper said there will be rolling blackouts all weekend as they try and make repairs.  Power was out all afternoon again until 8 pm last night.  This is the reality of  life here in the Bahamas.  Power goes out a lot.  So I need to get our devices charged, get a couple groceries from the store, and wash my daughter's and husband's uniforms while we have power this morning.  I'm not going to do a big grocery trip since I don't want a ton of food in the fridge that I have to worry about spoiling.

Without power I haven't been able to get any TpT work done.  Funny how that works...  After the long power outage overnight on Friday I woke up with the desire to clean.  Yesterday I got all my floors mopped and all the bathrooms in the house clean (we have 4 bathrooms).  Today I want to clean our master bedroom.  Depends on our power situation of course.  It gets hot upstairs after the power is out for awhile with no AC.

And whether the power goes out or not, I'm just happy to chill with my kids this morning and my husband when he gets home from work this afternoon.  Yesterday afternoon we spent the afternoon at the pool with all of our friends here in the community while the power was out.  We even played a fun game of sand volleyball.  So we'll see if that's in the plans again.  Depends on the power situation.  Not a bad way to spend a day though...

Happy Sunday!

Five for FRIDAY!

 Happy Friday!
Yay!  It's Friday!  It has been a busy week and I am ready for the weekend.  How about you?  I'm linking up with Kacey from Doodlebugs Teaching for her weekly Five for Friday linky party.  Click the pic below to join in on the fun!

Here's my 5 from this past week...

My little man wanted to spend Monday morning at the pool.  The water is still too cold for me but he loves it.  I didn't complain a bit about hanging out with him.  :)

Divider 2
Are you participating in the book study?  This week we shared our thoughts on chapter 4.  It was all about how important games are.  This is something I feel very strongly about.  I even blogged about the power of math games here.  Most of my TpT products are games.  I saw so many more great ideas for games as I visited everyone's blogs.

Divider 3
For preschool/toddler story hour I got out a box of alphabits cereal.  I had the kids who could write their names in black marker.  Then they traced their name with glue.  Finally they got to put the alphabits on the glue to form their name.  Best part about this activity?  They could eat the alphabits while they worked.  Everyone was happy!

These seed pods are everywhere right now.  They hang from trees and then fall on the ground.  My son picked one up and discovered that the seeds inside make noise.  He calls it his instrument.  Sounds like a rain maker.  Really cool!  He loves it!!!

Speaking of games... I'm updating all my SPLAT! games and making Spring themed ones.  This week I finished Springtime SPLAT!  Telling Time Edition.  It is CCSS Aligned and covers time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour.  Click the picture below to check it out in my TpT store.
Happy Friday everyone and enjoy your weekend!
