My husband was out of town all week.  He gets back this afternoon.  Yay me!  I survived!  We survived dinner by doing it short-order cook style.  Wednesday night I thought I'd take the night off so we got pizza....they wouldn't eat it.  Suri wanted cereal and Levi wanted his 3rd peanut butter and jelly sandwich of the day.  Guess I shouldn't complain.  Those choices are way healthier than pizza!

Did you read my post on Tuesday about snow dough?  If not, check it out here.  Here's Levi helping me make snow dough.  A fun, but messy experience.  A lot of vacuuming!!

My phone was hacked.  Hacked by my 7 and 3 year old.  How do I know?  They left evidence behind...

Tuesday's story hour was all about penguins.  I blogged in detail about it on Tuesday.  You can read it here.

Today is a pretty exciting day for me.  A really good friend of mine is coming to visit for a week.  Tory and I were roommates in Virginia back when I was fresh out of college and had just started my teaching career.  She is from England and was working for a company temporarily in the area.  We became really good friends and have stayed friends.  She's flying all the way from England today to come visit.  I haven't seen her since my wedding 10 years ago.  I'm soooo excited!!!!!  Tomorrow we are off to Blue Lagoon.  We are going to do the dolphin encounter.  It will be our first time doing the dolphin encounter.  The kids are excited.  I am too, actually.

Happy Friday everyone!

Just Another Typical Tuesday...

Hello Everyone!

Well the East coast has us (partly) to thank in the Bahamas for that front bringing them all the snow.  A cold front here means highs in the 60s and 25 mph winds.  Up in the northeast it means a blizzard.  Hope all of my friends and family are warm and safe, tucked cozily in their homes.

Around here it's been cooler which has been nice.  I turned off the AC and opened the windows, Levi and I wore jeans, we played extra-long at the park after story hour, and I put on pants and long-sleeves for the cool night-night walk tonight.

Today was another typical Tuesday, which if you're catching on, is never typical.  :0)  The hubby is out of town this week so it's just me this week.  So far so good, but it's only Tuesday.

The day started with a "look momma!".  Yup, he's sitting in an upside down stroller.

Then he requested his snow-dough.  A friend of mine, Sara from sarajcreations, blogged about this on her blog.  I figured this would be a fun sensory experience for Levi.  Problem is, everytime he uses it, I have to get out the vacuum to clean it up.  He likes to mash it and crumble it.  Picture crumbled white play-doh everywhere, like snow!  But, I'm a patient mom and don't mind messes so much, so I vacuum.

Later, it was our favorite time of the week....story hour!  Today was all about penguins.  We read Pierre the Penguin, a true story about a penguin who loses his feathers and the researchers who help him until they grow back again.  I lent the book to a story hour friend so here's the link to it on amazon:

After the story we headed over to the craft table and started our art project...making a penguin!

The kids loved it!  They got right to work painting the belly white...

and gluing on the eyes, nose, and feet...

Since the weather was so nice a few of us stayed and played at the park together for awhile.  Then it was home for lunch.  Levi starts to get tired but I can't let him nap.  If I do, he will be awake until 9 or 10 at night.  So I found him playing bugs and buttons (his favorite app) on his sister's ipad under his blanket  in the upside down stroller.

Later we went and picked up Suri from school.  Levi loves it when Suri comes home from school.  He misses her during the day.  They played outside for awhile and then wanted to come in and play guessed it...snow-dough.  So I got it out.  (Told you I'm patient).  Well, with two of them playing it just got messier and messier.  Picture white crumbles everywhere!  So I let them have all their fun and then had them help me clean up what they could.  We threw it away and I vacuumed it all up for the last time.  Back to regular play-doh tomorrow.

Since daddy is out of town I'm doing dinner short order cook style.  Tonight's request was hot dogs.  Easy peasy.  I made myself a salad at lunch and ate the left-overs for dinner.  We get these absolutely delicious filets that we grill and then keep for left-overs.  I make beef teriyaki over rice and slice it up and put it in salads.  Yum!

So there you have it, another typical Tuesday.  My kids enjoyed seeing the snow coverage on the weather channel tonight.  If you are enjoying/enduring the snow, stay warm and safe!  Enjoy the snow days fellow teachers!

Sunday Scoop

 Good Morning!
It was an early start for me this morning.  My son came in at 5:15 ready to go downstairs.  I couldn't convince him to play on the ipad for a few minutes so downstairs we went.  One hour later and after my Spark, I'm feeling a little more awake.  Time for the Sunday Scoop.  I'm linking up with Teaching Trio for this weekly Sunday linky.  Click on the pic below to join in on the fun!

Here's what I'm up to this Sunday...

I'm in charge of pulling together and organizing the curriculum for the Toddler room for Sunday School every week.  I have today planned.  I just need to print everything out and gather a few materials.
My husband leaves tomorrow for a week of training in Charleston.  I need to figure out what the kids and I are going to eat and go grocery shopping while he's still here to watch the kids.
Our art supply cabinet is out of control.  I have the craft supplies organized into containers I bought from Oriental Trading last year.  I've just put so much other stuff in the cabinet with it that it's become a disaster.  Time to clear it out.

Since my husband is going to be gone I'd like to write and schedule some blog posts today.  I usually get some TpT work done after he gets home from work around 1:30.  So without that window to work this week I hope to get some work done today.

I need to catch up on some emails.  A couple of friends as well as a new officer coming to the island are awaiting replies on emails they sent last week.  Maybe I'll clean out my inbox while I'm at it...

Excited to skype my Nanny.  That's what I call my grandma.  The kids are usually a bit hyper on skype but hopefully they will cooperate to talk to her a little bit.  She really looks forward to seeing us.  She's my last remaining grandparent so I look forward to seeing her too.

What are you up to today?

Happy Sunday!

We spent 3 days in Orlando last weekend.  Originally it was just going to be my daughter and I but my husband got a couple extra days of leave approved onto his 4 day weekend and decided he and Levi wanted to come.  So off the 4 of us went.  We had a great time.  Mostly shopping and getting Suri new glasses.  We did take the kids to Downtown Disney for an afternoon.  Here's the hubby and the kids at the Lego store in front of a Lego Hulk.

Then we had to go get ice cream at the Ghirardelli Ice Cream Soda Store.

Our plane got delayed on the way back.  Thank goodness for Orlando airport's play area.  It kept my kids happily entertained for 2 hours.

Because our plane was delayed we ended up watching the first quarter of the game in Orlando's airport.  Luckily we were flying Jet Blue home so we watched the game on the flight home up until 7 minutes into the 4th quarter.  When we got off the plane we were sure my Packers were going to win.  Imagine our surprise when someone told us outside the airport that it was tied at 22 and going into overtime.  We rushed home, put our kids to bed, and watched the 4th quarter that we had recorded.  While I'm sad that my Packers lost, I do like the Seahawks.  Russell Wilson is a Wisconsin boy so I'm a fan.  What a comeback!  But the Pack will be back!

Tuesday was story hour.  We read my pop-up version of The Snowmen (Snowmen at Night).  The kiddos loved it.  I let them pull the tabs to make the snowmen move so they stayed engaged.  After the story they made their own snowmen.  It was fun to see who did what with their snowmen.  Some were all about the bling, some were very minimal in their decorating, and some tried a little bit of everything.  I blogged in detail about it here.  But here's some of the finished products.

Divider 4
We spent Monday at the beach.  We had fun in Orlando wearing jeans and long sleeve tshirts but it was nice to come home and head to the beach for an afternoon.  I just love these two!

Yesterday I finished my Valentines Hearts ABCs and Numbers matching resources.  My Christmas mitten and Winter mitten ones were big sellers.  I also bundled all 3 together into a Winter ABCs and 123s pack.  The Valentines Letter Matching is posted in my store.  Click on the picture to grab it.  Everything else will be posted shortly in my store.  The Valentines ones and the bundle will be 50% off for the first 48 hours.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Stay warm for those of you enduring cold temps!

Just another typical Tuesday...

Right now in my head I'm singing "Just another manic Monday" but changing it to "Just another typical Tuesday".  Songs get stuck in my head and then my brain plays with the words...  Around here it was a very busy typical Tuesday.  Tuesdays are probably our busiest days.

Tuesday is story hour day.  I co-teach a story hour for the kiddos in the neighborhood who stay at home with their parent or caregiver.  Since we restrict it to kiddos who live in the neighborhood we are allowed to use the clubhouse for our story hour.  Kids and caregivers look forward to this every week.  It just helps break up the day, you know?

Today I was on my own.  My partner is off in Atlanta buying a house to move into when they leave the island in March.  So we had planned to do If I Lived in a Snowglobe but I decided yesterday to change the project to something a little more toddler friendly.  Our ages range from 1-4 so I was worried about the younger side of our crew.  I decided to go with snowmen!

We started by singing all our songs.  The kids are really getting to know all the words and actions now that we have been doing this almost a year.  After songs I read Snowmen at Night.  This book is fabulous!  But I have an even more fabulous version...the pop-up version!!!  Ummm.... sweet sauce!  The kids loved it.  I let them all come up and take turns pulling tabs to make the snowmen do the various actions.  It really kept them engaged, which is not easy to do.  :)

Then it was craft time.  I already drew the outlines of the snowmen for them.  Some of our kiddos are very good with scissors, like this cutie here.  All I had to do was turn the paper for her and she was able to stay with the line.

For the others, the caregivers and parents stepped in to do the cutting.  Then it was all toddler/preschooler time!  I gave them buttons, sparkles, puff balls, googly eyes, and glue.  We let them go where their little minds would take them.

And for some finished examples...

Then a little after 1pm this afternoon our neighbor knocked on the door and said she wanted to show Levi something.

Ummmm... if there's a snake skin that big, then that means there's a snake around here that big.  GULP!

We left to get mail on that note.  Someone was tired.  This happens about 99% of the time we go to get mail in the afternoon.

"The dump, the dump, the dump is on fire!"  Can you name that tune?  (The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire!).  Told you... my brain does funny things.  Some arsonists set the dump on fire over the weekend and it's still burning.  This isn't terribly unusual since they usually burn the trash anyways and fires at the dump are pretty common.  However, this one is quite big.  We had a very smoky day around here.  No, that's not cloud cover...that's smoke cover!

For dessert tonight I got out the marshmallows, pretzels, and chocolate chips and let my kids make snowmen.  And we sang "Do you wanna build a snowman?  Do you wanna eat him now?"... I seriously need to stop!  My daughter is catching on to my life as a blogger because she wouldn't eat hers until I took a picture.

Then she told me to post it here...

Never a dull moment around here.  Anyways... hope you had a good day today!  Maybe now some of these songs will find their way out of my head.  :)
